Row House Addition
Philadelphia, PA
A 200-foot long wedge of land surrounded by masonry ruins is what
remained of an industrial warehouse located mid-block behind street
front homes. Annexed by an adjacent townhouse property, the expansive
open space became the defining feature of this urban site. A bright,
airy family room addition connects the original dwelling to the
disjointed rear garden, activating once underutilized space as the old
warehouse wall becomes the new edge between garden and house. The newly
enclosed volume, carefully designed to maximize the impact of open
space, light and views, expands the adjacent kitchen and functions as
the new hub of family life.
