Outdoor Living Room
Suburban Philadelphia
A primary goal for this small out-building project was the creation of
comfortable outdoor spaces for living and entertaining adjacent to an
existing pool. Located across the pool from the main house, the new
pavilion and its integral stone wall form an edge against expansive
grounds, providing a sense of intimacy and enclosure to the captured
exterior space. Taking its cues from the main residence, a Tudor
Revival structure built in the 1920's, the pavilion is detailed with
steeply sloping roofs and dark stained half-timbering infilled with a
colorful glazed tile. Constructed in a rich palette of natural
materials carefully selected to complement those of the existing house,
the new structure anchors the pool deck and creates a setting that feels
cohesive and connected to its surroundings.
