Extensive renovations to a townhouse in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia included reconfiguration of interior spaces throughout, as well as a family room addition to connect the dwelling to the defining feature of the site - a 200-foot long walled garden. The bright, airy addition was built against the garden's west wall, its existing masonry openings infilled with steel windows to become striking views into the garden. Kitchen and dining spaces were reconfigured to create transparency between first floor spaces and a strong visual link to the outdoors. The addition, together with the expanded kitchen, is designed to maximize the impact of open space, light and views and functions as the new hub of family life.
